This study, conducted in the Kikwit North health zone (Kikwit city, Kwilu province, Democratic Republic of Congo), focuses on the susceptibility of Anopheles mosquitoes to insecticides used in malaria control. The study aims to analyze the susceptibility of Anopheles s.l. mosquitoes to the main insecticides used in vector control in the city of Kikwit. This is an experimental study conducted in the Kikwit North health zone from March to December 2025. Stratified random sampling was used to ensure geographic and ecological representativeness of the Kikwit North health zone. Anopheles larvae were collected from natural and artificial breeding sites (abandoned canoes, puddles, gutters, old drums, water holes) using ladles or entomological pipettes, then reared to adulthood in an insectarium. In total, a minimum of 300 mosquitoes were tested. The results reveal significant variability in sensitivity depending on the molecule tested and the duration of exposure. Permethrin (0.75%) exhibits delayed sensitivity, reflecting a possible delayed toxic effect or partial tolerance. Alpha-cypermethrin (0.05%), on the other hand, maintains high efficacy, indicating the absence of significant resistance in the studied population. In contrast, deltamethrin (0.05%) shows clear and persistent resistance. Permethrin (0.75%) showed delayed sensitivity, suggesting a delayed toxic effect or partial tolerance, while alpha-cypermethrin (0.05%) maintained high efficacy, indicating a lack of marked resistance in the studied population. In contrast, deltamethrin (0.05%) exhibited clear and persistent resistance, confirmed by both statistical tests and confidence intervals, which corroborates the observations of other recent studies (Sagbohan et al., 2021; Soumaila et al., 2022). This study highlights the complexity of pyrethroid resistance and the importance of regular, standardized monitoring integrated into a comprehensive resistance management plan. Further investigations, particularly through intensity and synergy tests, appear essential to better understand the underlying mechanisms and to adapt vector control interventions sustainably and effectively.
